38 year old Yui Ueda leads the Gateway to the Open Mizuno Open through 36 holes at the Setonaikai Golf Club in Okayama Prefecture, the one time Japan Golf Tour winner, opening up a two shot advantage on the field.

It has been five years since Ueda won his one and only Japan Tour event at the 2007 Token Homemate Cup.

Brad Kennedy and Nick Cullen are the best of the Australasians in 16th position at 4 under and five behind Ueda's lead while Brendan Jones is one shot further back.

Richard Lee, Kurt Barnes, Steve Conran and David Smail were other Australasians to make the cut although they are well of the pace.

The leading four players in this week's event not otherwise qualified will earn a start at the Open Championship in mid July as will the leading two players on the Japan Tour money list at the completion of this week's event.
