The second half of the Japan Tour's ISPS Handa Match Play Championship restarts today at the Hamano Golf Club in Chiba Prefecture.

The opening two rounds of the AUD$2.5 million event were played in early August with 24 of the original 96 players progressing to join the leading 8 available players from the 2016 Japan Tour money list who were granted a bye into the third round.

Of the 32 who will line up on Wednesday, three are Australasians with Michael Hendry, Won Joon Lee and Matthew Griffin having advanced from the opening two rounds.

Unfortunately for those from Australasia, Hendry will tackle Lee, thereby eliminating one from the Round of 16.

Griffin will play the South African Shaun Norris in the Round of 32, Norris a two-time winner on the Japan Tour including his win at the Japan Golf Tour Championship earlier this season.

The marquee local stars are Hideto Tanihara, who earlier this year finished 3rd at the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship, and Yuta Ikeda, who, just two weeks ago, won his 17th Japan Tour event.

Tanihara is currently 11th in the Presidents Cup International standings and Ikeda 13th and so are 1st and 3rd in terms of those players just missing out on automatic selection so both are chances of a Nick Price Captain’s pick to be announced on Wednesday US time.
