The Japan Golf Tour returns to action this week when the rather oddly named Japan Tour Championship, Mori Building Cup Shishido Hills, is played at the Shishido Hills Country Club's West Course in Ibaraki to the north and east of Tokyo.

The event was first played in 2000 although switched to this current venue in 2003 and has been held here since.

The defending champion is Satoshi Kodaira who defeated former champion S.K. Ho of Korea last year but there has not been a lot to get excited about since that breakthrough Japan Tour victory for Kodaira.

Thirteen Australasians are in the field including the New Zealand Open Champion Dimitrios Papadatos who as a result of his win in Queenstown earlier this year earned a start at three Japan Tour events.

Other Australasians in the field are Brad Kennedy, Michael Hendry, Steve Conran, Kurt Barnes, Stephen Leaney, David Smail, Steven Jeffress, Scott Strange, Matthew Guyatt, Richard Tate, Adam Bland and Richard Lee.
