Japan's Unusually Named PGA Championship

The Japan Tour is back after a break of one week with the staging of this week’s rather strangely named Japan PGA Championship Nissin Cup Noodle Cup being played at the Kanehide Kise Country Club on the southern Japan island of Okinawa.

It is, however, the Japan PGA Championship and as such is one of the flagship events of the Japan Golf Tour.

The event is played at a new venue each year, last year’s championship held at the other end of the country in Hokkaido when won by Japan’s third highest ranked player Hideto Tanihara who is not in this week’s field, as is the case with their number two ranked player Yuta Ikeda who has managed to secure a start at the Players Championship.

Australasians who will tee it up on Thursday are Brad Kennedy, 2015 champion Adam Bland, Brendan Jones, Todd Sinnott, Kurt Barnes, Aaron Townsend and New Zealander Michael Hendry.
