Jake McLeod leads South Pacific Open

impressive start for the rookie McLeod
First season professional, Jake Mcleod, has opened up a three shot lead at the South Pacific Open Championship at the Tina Golf Club in Noumea, the Queenslander ahead of Victorian Thomas Horan Power.

McLeod, who turned professional soon after winning the Queensland Amateur Championship last October, has produced some solid results in the events he has had a chance to play and this week he has taken the Tina Golf Club’s layout by the scruff of the neck with an opening round of 63 ahead of today’s round of 67.

There is a four-way tie for 3rd position at 7 under par and five shots from the lead namely NSW’s Benjamin Clemenston, South Australian Jason Norris, ACT’s Matthew Millar and New Zealander Harry Bateman.

The cut fell at 3 over par with 58 players making it through to the final 36 holes.

The event is a Tier 2 tournament on the PGA Tour of Australasia.
