Queensland’s Asian Tour rookie, Jake Mcleod, has recorded his best finish on that tour by finishing in a share of second place at the Royal Cup in Pattaya In Thailand.

Originally from Central Queensland before heading to Brisbane in his early teens, McLeod developed into a good amateur winning the Queensland Amateur Championship and finishing 4th at the Queensland Open while still in the amateur ranks but he was not amongst the elite of Australian amateur golf so his transition to the professional ranks has been impressive.

He has yet to win an event anywhere but there have been several top tens including a runner-up finish at this year’s Victorian Open.

McLeod gained only conditional status at this year’s Asian Tour’s Qualifying School after a disappointing showing at the Qualifying School and has been only to play a few events thus far but this finish and the accompanying US$33,000 will assist his cause.

He moves to 40th on this season’s money list after four events.

McLeod finished six shots behind the emphatic winner Justin Harding of South Africa but was tied for second place with India’s Shiv Kapur, American Kurt Kitayama and Thailand’s Chapchai Nirat.

New South Welshman Dale Brandt Richards tied for 14th with, amongst others, Josh Younger and New Zealander Mark Brown.
