Port Fairy, which is only a short drive from the regional centre of Warrnambool (well known as the home town of PGA Tour player Marc Leishman), surely ranks among the best value-for-money golf experiences that Australia has to offer.
Perhaps the best illustration yet of the joy of Port Fairy Golf Club can be seen in aerial video vision released this week on Vimeo by Vimeo user James Kol.
After a somewhat non-descript opening couple of holes at Port Fairy, views of the bordering Southern Ocean become abundant and the stretch of holes from the 12th to the 16th is more reminiscent of the great links golf offerings in Ireland.
In its January 2016 ranking of Australia top 100 golf courses, Golf Australia magazine listed Port Fairy at #48 and the good news for golfers is that it's public access and won't cost you an arm and a leg for a round.
An 18-hole round for a visitor is $40 and $25 for nine holes while juniors (under 18 years) pay just $15 for 18 holes and $10 for nine holes.
Not a bad way to spend a few hours!
