West Australian Breanna Gill and Steve Jeffress, Brett Coletta and Brett Rankin are the inaugural champions of the Qantas Golf Club Gold Coast Challenge at the Links Hope Island on the Gold Coast.

Gill won by two shots over Belgium’s Manon De Roey with NSW’s Sarah Kemp in 3rd position and one behind De Roey in the women’s version of the event.

Gold Coast based New South Welshman Jeffress, Victorian Coletta and Queenslander Rankin all finished at 11 under par and shared the prizemoney for the leading three places in the men’s field.

The event, played over 36 holes on the Thomson Wolveridge designed layout, combined both ALPGA and PGA Tour of Australasia players who each played with an amateur in what was a pro-am format but with both male and female professional fields playing for respective purses of $30,000.

For Coletta the finish represents a return to form for the former Queensland Open Champion, an event he won as an amateur, after a run of golf where he had been struggling prior to an improved showing at the ISPS Handa New Zealand Open.

Coletta, playing in his very first PGA Pro-am Series event, was clearly delighted with his round of 64, especially given the tough windy conditions.

"This is the first time that I had played at Links Hope Island”, said Coletta. “I really like the course I can't believe how good the condition was given all of the rain here in recent weeks, especially the greens which rolled really well”.

“I putted solidly and am really happy with my results the past two days."

The Victorian said that his focus was now firmly set on Canadian Qualifying School in five weeks time,

"I played well in New Zealand the past couple of weeks and I just want to keep that momentum going so I can head over there playing well. Playing here and at Royal Pines the next couple of days is a really good opportunity for me to gain some confidence before I head to Canada"

For Gill the victory is her second in professional golf having won the Mercedes Benz Cairns Classic last year.

Gill also won the 2018 Club Car Series for overall success in a series of six niminated ALPG events.
