Homa another first time PGA Tour winner

Max Homa celebrates after his winning putt drops at Quail Hollow.
28-year-old Californian, Max Homa, has won his first PGA Tour title with a three-shot win over another looking for his first title at this level, Joel Dahmen, at the Wells Fargo Championship in North Carolina.

Homa, who has played both the Web.com and PGA Tours since 2014, began the final round at Quail Hollow Club tied with Dahmen but despite a weather delay during the afternoon was able muster enough concentration to defeat a high class field which included Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, and defending champion Jason Day.

Rose would, in fact, finish 3rd, one behind Dahmen while Sergio Garcia, Paul Casey, Rickie Fowler and Jason Dufner tied for 4th.

Jason Day had worked his way into contention at the halfway stage of the event but a third round of 74 cost him any chance of defending his title and he finished as the leading Australian in 24th position while Matt Jones finished 38th and John Senden 58th following his last round of 76.

The PGA Tour is now just one event away from the second major of the year, The PGA Championship at Bethpage State Park in New York beginning on May 16th.

This coming week’s event is the AT&T Byron Nelson in Dallas where Marc Leishman will tee it up as the leading Australian in the field.
