Both Lonard and Campbell were competing in their very first regular-season event on the European Senior (Staysure) Tour although both have played Senior majors previously.
Lonard’s fellow Australian, David McKenzie, finished 5th after leading during the middle stages of the final round, his performance following a 5th place at last week’s Senior Open Championship.
Campbell, who returned to tournament golf at the New Zealand Open earlier this year, was playing just his 4th tournament since turning 50 a few days prior to that tournament. The 2005 US Open Champion eagled his final hole today to leapfrog into the share of second place.
For Lonard, who began his career in the over fifties two years ago, this was his very first event on the Staysure Tour other than the 2017 and 2018 Senior Open Championship where, in 2017 and on debut in senior golf, he finished an impressive 3rd behind Bernhard Langer.
Former Australian Open Champion and now 60 year old, Peter Fowler, also recorded a good week when he finished 6th.
