The Dogwood Invitational, part of the summer series of amateur events in the USA, was completed yesterday at the Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta in Georgia with Auburn University, Junior Michael Johnson, creating a new tournament record in his seven shot victory over Georgia Tech's Oliver Schniederjans.

Johnson smashed the 11 year old record of Australian Andrew Buckle by five shots in an event that dates back to 1941.

Three Australians played the event and it was Queenslander James Gibellini who did best when he closed with a final round of 68 to finish 10th, albeit 18 shots from the runaway winner.

Townsville's Jake McLeod finished 35th and Indooroopilly's Aaron Wilkin 43rd.
