Fox on fire at Southern Am

New Zealander, Ryan Fox, finds himself with a share of the lead following the second round of the Southern Amateur Championship being played in Florida.

Fox is at 6-under-par along with American, Gregor Main, after opening rounds of 70-66 with Fox's 5-under-par second round of 66 the tournament's low round so far. The pair have a stroke advantage over Harris English who's in outright third position.

Tarquin MacManus, winner of the 2011 Master of the Amateurs back in January at Royal Melbourne, fired an impressive second round 67 to move up the leader board to be best of the Australians along with Australian Amateur Stroke champion, Cameron Smith with the two currently at 2-under-par for the tournament and in a tie for 7th position, three strokes behind the leaders.

MacManus has carded rounds of 73-67 with Smith scoring rounds of 71-69.

Todd Sinnott continues to play well in the US with the former Victorian Boy's champion currently at 1-under-par after rounds of 71-70 to be in a tie for 12th position. Sinnott is in search of his third straight top-20 finish in a main US amateur event after solid results at the Dogwood Invitational and last week's top-10 finish at the Players Amateur in South Carolina.

Daniel Nisbet lost ground with his second round 1-over-par 72 after opening with a 70 to be in a tie for 17th position at even par, six behind the leaders.

Kalem Richardson fired rounds of 73-70 to be at 1-over and in 21st position, with New Zealander Ben Campbell at plus-2 after rounds of 71-73 to be in a tie for 31st position.

Two other Australians made the plus-6 cut mark with Nathan Holman firing rounds of 70-77 to be at 5-over-par along with Matt Stieger, after the Australian Amateur champion carded rounds of 73-74. They are currently in a tie for 55th position.

Six Australians missed the cut with Ryan McCarthy firing rounds of 81-69 to be at 8-over-par and two strokes short of making the final rounds, along with three other Aussies on the 8-over-par mark including, Maverick Antcliff with rounds of 77-73, Tim Hart with rounds of 72-78 and Rory Bourke with scores of 77-74. They finished in a tie for 85th position.

Daniel Bringolf carded rounds of 78-74 and Brett Drewitt had rounds of 73-82, to finish well down in the field.
