Four way tie in Japan - Jones makes cut

The Japan Tour's Nagashima Shigeo Invitational Sega Sammy Cup on the northern island of Hokkaido has reached the halfway stage and 22 year old Korean Jung-Gon HWANG and Japan's Yoshinori Fujimoto, Koumei Oda and Kazuhiro Yamashita have a one shot lead over Toru Taniguchi as the event heads into the weekend at the North Country Golf Club.

Scott Strange heads the Australasians in 11th position and at 2 under is four shots from the lead.

David Smail is 22nd, Kurt Barnes and Brad Kennedy are 33rd, Brendan Jones 45th and Stephen Leaney 55th.

For Jones it was an encouraging restart of his career in Japan having spent most of the last nine months preparing for and recovering from wrist injury and surgery.

"I played really well with a few little mistakes thrown in," said Jones after his opening round of 70 yesterday. "One in the water on 16 and a couple of fliers that resulted in bogies but it was really solid apart from that. It was great to be back out there!"

Jones was not quite so good today but to have made the cut after such a lengthy break from the game was a pleasant surprise.
