Fleetwood heads quarters at NSW Amateur

England's Tommy Fleetwood continues to display the form that has seen the world number 16 claim three major international titles in as many years, progressing to the final eight at the NSW Amateur Championship being played at Royal Sydney.

Fleetwood, winner of the 2009 Scottish Open Amateur and a quarter-finalist at last year's British Amateur, accounted for Monash's Andrew Thompson during today's second round.

Fleetwood is set to encounter Jin Jeong in Wednesday's quarter-final, a match that is sure to be a stern test for the Englishman, with Jeong already experiencing victory this year winning the Boroondara Cup in Victoria last month.

Luke Henwood will meet Luke Humphries in the other quarter-final in the bottom half, after Henwood accounted for Matt Stieger, 1-up. Humphries progression to their match was a little easier winning his second round match against Theo Coroneo, 5&4.

In the upper-half of the draw, Brett Drewitt ended Michael Williams' runs at the championship, defeating the 2010 NSW Medal Champion and number 1 qualifier, 1-up in their second round match.

Drewitt will meet Patrick Wilson in the first quarter-final, after Wilson's 2-up win over Kyle Grant.

The last quarter-final match will see Alex Pitty against Jake Higginbottom, with Higginbottom advancing with a 4&3 win over Scotland's, Fraser Fotheringham. Pitty accounted for Jamie Hook, 4/2 to set up his match against Higginbottom.
