Flanagan earns PGA Tour start

Newcastle golfer Nick Flanagan is one of just four golfers to have earned the right, via Monday qualifying, to play this week's Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte in North Carolina, the 27 year old set to play his first PGA Tour event in more than three years.

Flanagan, the US Amateur Champion of 2003, has been unable to regain his PGA Tour status since losing it at the end of 2008 after leading the money list of the Nationwide Tour in 2007.

Flanagan has struggled on the Nationwide Tour since leaving the PGA Tour although there has been the occasional good finish including when runner-up at last year's Midwest Classic in Kansas.

He has played just one Nationwide Tour event this season although just being able to claim a spot in this week's signficant event at Quail Hollow will be a signficant boost for him.
