The top eight players plus ties will receive exemptions to the 54 player field that will contest in arguably the biggest amateur event in the southern hemisphere.
It's also easy to see why many of our young guns and the world's best want to play and win the Australian Master of the Amateurs. The event started with a vision that Peter and Angela Mann shared more than a decade ago, namely to create one of the world's best amateur tournaments and to let aspiring players "˜live the dream'.
Boasting a world tournament ranking inside the top-20 and sitting as Australia's top ranked amateur tournament, the Australian Master of the Amateurs enjoys a unique position.
Company Directors Angela and Peter Mann are rightly proud with their achievement, an achievement that's being built upon a foundation of passion, daring and corporate support.
"We have wonderful support from our sponsors and over the years we have developed a strong "˜family' of supporters," says Peter Mann.
"This is our 15th year running and the tournament continues to go from strength to strength. Having the tournament at Royal Melbourne just underpins the status of the event. We hope to have competing the world's top three Amateurs, Pat Cantlay, Patrick Rodgers and Jordan Spieth and other players from the UK, USA, China and South Africa."
The tournament has already proved to be a prominent stepping stone in the golfing careers of Australians Jason Day and Brendan Jones and US PGA young gun, Rickie Fowler.
Last week the tournament was officially launched at the RACV Club in Bourke St, Melbourne, with the Australian Master of the Amateur trophy proudly displayed next to the Presidents Cup with the two rubbing off each other nicely.
Amateurs from around the world will contest the 72-hole stroke amateur golf championship scheduled for early January 2012 with numerous exemptions already being offered and accepted by the world's best.
The 2011 Australian Master of the Amateurs Green Jacket Champion, Tarquin MacManus has received an exemption into the 2011 Amateur Championship UK, Porter Cup USA, The Players Amateur USA, The Dogwood Invitational USA, and the Canadian Mens Amateur Championship.
Over eighty hopefuls tee up today at Royal Melbourne hoping to "˜live the dream'.
For those who qualify they are set to experience what has become the Australian Master of the Amateurs. A great competition against the world's best played on one of the best courses there is. Throw in there the glamor and hype you have during the tournament week and there is a potent mix that's unique and an event that places Australian amateur golf squarely on the word's amateur golfing stage.
