Drewitt wins NSW Amateur

Sydney's Brett Drewitt gained some compensation for his narrow loss at the New South Wales Medal last week when he today won the NSW Amateur Championship at the Elanora Country Club amongst Sydney's northern beach suburbs.

Drewitt defeated his NSW Golf Club opponent, Michael Lambert, by a 1 up margin in the 36 hole final, fending off a late comeback by Lambert.

Lambert led early but Drewitt went ahead early on the back nine of the morning round and at lunch was 1 up. He won two holes quickly after lunch to take a three up lead but Lambert fought back and through 27 holes the match was all square.

Drewitt took control again and led by three with three holes to play but at the finish there was only one hole in it.

Drewitt finished runner-up after a playoff at last week's NSW Medal at the Long Reef and Mona Vale Golf Clubs.

Amateur golf continues its run of significant events with the Australian Foursomes and the Riversdale Cup both played at the Riversdale Golf Club in Melbourne, the Foursomes beginning on February 14th and the Riversdale Cup on February 16th.
