Drakeford runner-up at Southern Amateur

Victorian golfer Geoff Drakeford has finished in a share of runner-up position at the Southern Amateur Championship at the Honors Course in Ooltewah in Tennessee, three shots behind American M.J. McGuire.

Drakeford struggled to a final round of 75 but many others battled in final round conditions including the 54 hole leader, Beau Hossler, who recorded a round of 80 to finish in a share of 4th.

New Zealander Amateur Champion, Josh Munn, was the next best of the large Australasian contingent when he finished 8th.

The next events in amateur golf in the US include the US Junior Championship in Houston and the Porter Cup in Niagara Falls, both being played this coming week.

There will again be a large contingent of Australasians at the Porter Cup including Drakeford himself.
