Defending champion Luke Donald has the lead at the Dunlop Phoenix tournament in southern Japan through 54 holes, the Englishman leading by two over Korean Hyung-Sung Kim.

Donald is chasing a fourth victory by an Englishman in the nearly 40 year history of the event, the other two being Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter in addition to Donald's win last season.

Australia's Brad Kennedy is in a share of 3rd position at 3 under and although six shots from the lead and while a long way from the leader he has the opportunity to continue his good season with a good round tomorrow.

Kurt Barnes is 33rd and it now appears the New South Welshman has done enough to retain his playing privileges in Japan. He is currently in 62nd position on the money list and needs to be inside the top 70 at the completion of next week's Casio World Open.

David Smail is 42nd this week and Steve Conran 53rd.
