Davis, Jones and Blixt earn Open Championship starts

Open Qualifiers from left Matt Jones, Cameron Davis and Jonas Blixt
Cameron Davis not only won his first event as a professional when successful in this week’s Emirates Australian Open he has also earned himself a start in his very first major championship.

Davis was one of three players inside the top ten this week and not otherwise exempt into next year’s Open Championship at Carnoustie who gained starts next July and so he, Jonas Blixt and Matt Jones have cemented their appearances in Scotland next year.

Davis, who was the leading individual at last year’s Eisenhower Trophy Championship in one of the last events of his amateur career, stormed home with a final round of 64 today to take the Australian Open Championship title in what is an amazing way to begin his winning ways in professional golf..

The 22 year old will improve his world ranking from 1500th to around 225th when the revised rankings are calculated tomorrow.

Blixt and Jones who finished runner-up this week will play their 11th and 10th major championships at Carnoustie while for both of them it will be their 4th Open Championship starts.

Yet another reward for Davis on a day when his head will still be spinning.
