West Australian Curtis Luck is through to the second round of the match play at the US Amateur after his comfortable 4&3 victory over Andrew Huseman of Iowa and an attendee at Arkansas State University.

Luck was down early in his match after Huseman birdied the par 5 second hole but he won the next three holes. Although Huseman kept things tight until the turn, Luck edged clear early in the back nine as Huseman began to struggle.

Luck is Australia’s highest ranked male amateur golfer and earlier this year won the Tier 2 Australasian PGA Tour event, the WA Open.

He is looking to become just the second Australian to win the US Amateur following the breakthrough win of Nick Flanagan in 2003.
