Micheluzzi, who lead by one heading into today’s final round after a third round of 65 yesterday, raced through his opening 11 holes in 6 under par on one of Australia’s greatest layouts and by then result was beyond doubt.
He would eventually win by five shots over American Shan Bintaro (whose final round of 63 was the best of the week) and long-time leader and contender, Darcy Brereton, who appeared as if he would have to settle for third place until an eagle at the 17th hole drew him level with Ban.
Michulezzi’s win will move him significantly higher than his current 45th place in the World Amateur Rankings and having won the recent Victorian Amateur Championship he is Australia’s most in form amateur ahead of the Australian Amateur Championship in Perth next week.
Australia’s leading ranked amateur Min Woo Lee also played well in today’s final round, his 67 moving him into outright 4th.
In the inaugural staging of the Women's Master of the Amateurs 17 year old Japan golfer, Yuka Yasuda, won by five shots over Melbourne's Julienne Soo after her course record 3rd round of 65 set up the victory.
