The European Tour's BMW International at the Golf Club Gut Lärchenhof in Cologne has attracted a great field this week reflecting the popularity of the event but also the strength of European golf.

Despite this being the 25th staging of the event, the tournament has been played over this venue on only a two previous occasions in 2011 and again last year when Ernie Els was successful.

Martin Kaymer, Henrik Stenson and Sergio Garcia dominate the discussion prior to the event, all three inside the top ten in the current world ranking and all three in good form at present.

Kaymer's brilliant win at the US Open, along with the fact that he is playing in front of a home crowd will assure him favouritism for the title but Stenson and Garcia both have their claims, Stenson having produced three top tens in his last three starts this season and 6th in the event over this golf course last year and Garcia having narrowly missed winning last week in Hartford.

Other players worth keeping an eye on are an improving Paul Casey, and the winner the second to last time the event was played here, Danny Willett, who finished 3rd at the Irish Open last week.

Three Australians are in the field namely Richard Green, Brett Rumford and Wade Ormsby.
