Brett Rumford has completed an impressive comeback to tournament golf with a two shot victory over his fellow West Australian, Daniel Fox, at the West Australian PGA Championship at the Kalgoorlie Golf Club.

Rumford, who had not played a tournament since the Open Championship in July, won his first event in more the two years after holding on to a long held lead over the Graham Marsh designed layout although Fox stormed home with a final round of 66 and waited twenty minutes or so to see if he had done enough.

Rumford suffered a life threatening illness and surgery earlier in the year when it became necessary for part of his small intestine to be removed.

As is turned out it was with Rumford the champion by two ahead of Fox with Queenslander Daniel Nisbet and New South Wales’ Edward Stedman, who produced the round of the day (65), tied for third another shot further back.

The PGA Tour of Australasia now head east to Perth for this week’s Nexus Risk RSA Group West Australian Open at the Royal Fremantle Golf Club south of Perth.
