Being played from 10-13 July, Hend and Popovic will add their star power to the Mackay Open, one of the most highly regarded tournaments on the Queensland Sunshine Tour swing of the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series.
Hend will use the New Pioneer Motors City of Mackay Open as a lead in event for a busy end of year schedule which includes tournaments on the European Tour and Asian Tour.
For Popovic it's a matter of getting back into tournament mode, the former Australian PGA Champion has been sidelined with a reoccurring back injury.
"It has been three months since I have played so I am excited to be back out and competing again. It will also be nice to get out of the cold weather Melbourne is dishing up at the moment and head up North where it's a bit warmer," said Popovic.
"I am using this as an opportunity to play in a competitive environment and find some form ahead of the Aussie summer of golf.
"Playing at your home club with your mates only goes so far. Playing when there is money up for grabs, it brings that extra bit of pressure and incentive to play well, it brings out the best in you."
"I'm not expecting too much of myself but if I am up near the lead it will be a big bonus. Hopefully I can be ready for a fight"
The addition of Hend and Popovic is a coup for the tournament which carries a prize purse of $60,000.
"The Mackay Golf Club and Tournament Committee are thrilled that we have attracted both Daniel and Scott to an already high class field. It is great to see a former Australian PGA Champion and a multiple winner on the Asian Tour headline our event in 2014," said Neil Dougherty, Tournament Director for the New Pioneer Motors City of Mackay Open.
Also aiming to claim the title in 2014 are past Mackay Open champions Euan Walters and Steven Jeffress.
With young guns Nathan Holman, Tim Hart and Daniel Nisbet also in the field the competition will be fierce but the ultimate winners will be golf fans in Mackay.
"The strength of this year's field is recognition of the quality of the event that we have produced in Mackay for the past 20 years. This is something that I am sure our sponsors and the Mackay business community are justifiably proud of," added Dougherty.
The New Pioneer Motors City of Mackay Open tees off on Thursday 10th July, with 88 Professionals preparing to battle it out for this year's championship.
The field will be cut to the top 50 Professionals plus ties after Friday's second round with the champion to be crowned following Sunday's final round.
