Casey leads AT&T Pebble Beach but Day not without hope

Casey takes three shot lead into final round (file)
The 54-hole cut has been made at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Englishman Paul Casey has opened up a three-shot lead over four-time winner of the event Phil Mickelson with Scott Piercy and Lucas Glover another shot back and sharing 3rd place.

Casey who has played the event only once in previous years, that coming when 8th last year, completed his 54 holes with a round of 67 at Spyglass Hills and tomorrow heads back to the host venue of Pebble Beach Golf Links to potentially complete what would be his third PGA Tour title.

Mickelson continued his love affair with the event and the event’s love affair with him by adding a round of 70 at Pebble Beach to be three behind and given his recent form then he may well be on track for a fifth title at one of American golf’s most iconic venues.

Jason Day leads the Australians after his round of 72 today at Pebble Beach saw him lose ground but he is six shots behind the leader and just three shots out of second place so something very special from him tomorrow could yet see him contending for the title.

Curtis Luck is 28th and Matt Jones and Cameron Davis just snuck into tomorrow’s final round in 47th place.
