In joint second position are Buckle's fellow countryman Jarrod Lyle, last year's runner up Brian Vranesh, Martin Piller, Fabian Gomez, Scott Gutschewski and Vance Veazy.
The 27 year old Buckle endured a frustrating season in 2009, narrowly missing a return to the PGA Tour via the Nationwide Tour money list after being well placed to do so with four or five events left to play, and then agonisingly missing out at the PGA Tour School by just two shots.
Buckle is currently in 12th position on the 2010 money list after good finishes in New Zealand and Colombia.
Three years ago Buckle went so close to winning the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines in just his 4th start as a PGA Tour rookie and was eventually unable to retain full status for 2008 and by 2009 was back on the Nationwide Tour full time.
There have been injury issues that have curtailed his progress in that time but there is little doubt of the class of the former World and Australian Amateur Champion who now appears to be heading back to his former heights.
After his opening round of 74 on Friday, Buckle had his work cut out just to make the cut but a round of 64 on Friday and a 65 today has him in charge.
Lyle was another to add a round of 65 and like Buckle he too recovered from a slow start to the tournament after an opening round of 73. Lyle has also made a reasonable start to his 2010 season finishing 4th at the Moonah Classic and in one of his two PGA Tour starts he finished 9th in Mexico.
Aron Price and Stephen Leaney are the next best of the Australians in 19th position and six behind Buckle's lead.
