Ikeda, who has won on twelve occasions in Japan including this event in 2009, was round in 65 today to take the lead after being tied for the opening round lead and is three clear of Koumei Oda and Australian Brad Kennedy, Kennedy recovering from a missed cut in his own state championship in Brisbane last week to once again contend on the Japan Golf Tour.
Kennedy now resides in Tokyo with his family but during the break from tournament golf for much of August the weather in Tokyo was almost too hot to work on his game so his hitout last week on a visit to the Gold Coast has proven to be a good means of getting his game back in shape.
Scott Strange is the next best of the Australians in 29th position while Brendan Jones is 39th and Matthew Guyatt and Adam Bland are 57th.
