The US Women's Open is being played several weeks earlier than normal this year and five of the current top 10 from the Rolex Rankings are in this week's field at Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
World No. 2 Shanshan Feng, Ariya Jutanugarn, Sung Hyun Park, Jessica Korda and Moriya Jutanugarn headline the field.
Australia is represented this week by six of its seven LPGA Tour members; Karrie Webb preferring to prepare for next week at Shoal Creek in Alabama away from the competitive limelight.
Other Australians playing next week will be qualifier Sarah Kemp, who was ineligible for a start this week due to her lack of status on the LPGA Tour, and Gold Coaster Robyn Choi who is now at University in Colorado but who qualified via Sectional Qualifying.
Minjee Lee, Katherine Kirk, Sarah Jane Smith, Su Oh, Hannah Green and Rebecca Artis will tee it up though Lee appears the most likely to mount a serious challenge.
Lee - runner up at last month's Mediheal Championship - is currently 8th on the LPGA Tour money list and her share of second behind Feng in this event last year indicates another lucrative week is in the offing.
But the 21-year-old is yet to win a major championship and in fact owns only two top 10 finishes in 20 major starts but perhaps an omen this week for Lee is that her 22nd birthday will fall on Sunday's final round.
