Katherine Kirk has had a tough season on the LPGA Tour in 2015 but today there was some light at the end of the tunnel when she opened with a first round of 7 under par 64 at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Michigan to share the lead with Lizette Salas and Dori Carter.

Kirk's best finish this season has been when 16th at the Australian Open but overall she has missed ten of 17 cuts and in her last six starts she has missed five cuts and been 60th once.

The highlight of Kirk's round was an eagle at the 11th (her second hole) but she added seven other birdies along with two bogeys.

Sarah Kemp was the next best of the Australians when she finished with a round of 69 to be in 10th position.
