The US summer of elite amateur golf tournaments continues this week at the Players Amateur at the Berkeley Hall Golf Club in South Carolina where seven of Australia’s leading amateurs will attempt to become their nation's third winner of the event, which also includes several PGA Tour stars as former champions.

Blake Collyer, Charlie Dann, Louis Dobbelaar, David Micheluzzi, Matias Sanchez, Blake Windred and Shae Wools-Cobb will look to emulate the deeds of Aron Price (2004) and Daniel Nisbet (2012) as winners of the event, and to join major winner Ben Curtis, Rickie Fowler, Bill Haas and Camilo Villegas on the event’s honour roll.

Dann is the current Master of the Amateurs champion, Dobbelaar the current New Zealand Amateur champion and Sanchez defeated Min Woo Lee to win the Australian Amateur Championship earlier this year.

Sanchez indicated that his game is in good shape with a 6th place finish at last week’s Sahalee Players Championship in Seattle.

New Zealanders Ryan Chisnall and Daniel Hillier are also in the field.

Chinese golfer, Cheng Jin, who won the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in 2015, is the defending champion after defeating Australia’s Harrison Endycott and America’s Patrick Martin in 2016.
