The Coca Cola Queensland PGA Championship will be staged at the City Golf Club in Toowoomba this week, the fifth year in succession the event has been held in the regional city with a population of 100,000 and just under two hour's drive from Brisbane.

The event is a Tier 2 event on the PGA Tour of Australasia and is the middle of a three event swing of such events in Australian before the PGA Tour of Australasia heads to Queenstown in New Zealand later this month for the Tier One New Zealand Open.

The tournament has seen Brad Kennedy, Andrew Tschudin, Gareth Paddison and Steven Bowditch as the winners during the four years it has been played at the City Golf Club, a multi facility club in the suburbs of Toowoomba.

The defending champion is Gold Coaster, Brad Kennedy, who completed another solid season on the Japan Tour in 2013 but it might be that New Zealanders again have a chance to shine.

Last week New Zealander Paddison won the Victorian PGA Championship for the second occasion, continuing a run of god form in recent times defeating his fellow countryman Michael Hendry in the process.

Hendry has also played well at the City Golf Club finishing third to Steve Bowditch four years ago and the consistent performer on the PGA Tour of Australasia appears a great threat to Paddison.

Other standouts in the field include two time European Tour winner, Scott Strange, current New Zealand Open champion, Jake Higginbottom, New Zealander Mark Brown, Kurt Barnes and the highly talented and former PGA Tour player, Michael Sim, who is on the comeback trail after injury.
