Australian hopes have been extinguished at the Ladies British Open Amateur Championships at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

West Australian Minjee Lee was defeated in her second round encounter by Welsh golfer Amy Boulden 4&3 after she had survived an opening round match up against Louis Kenny of Scotland.

Victorian Breanna Elliott was comfortably beaten in round one by Denmark's Therese Koelback.

New Zealander stars Lydia Ko and Cecilia Cho, the world number one and two in female amateur rankings, were surprise second round losers.
