The field is missing some of the game’s top ranked players such as Lydia Ko, In Gee Chun and, surprisingly, Shanshan Feng are not in the field but with Ariya Jutanugarn, Brooke Henderson and Amy Yang participating then there is plenty of interest.
Sei Young Kim defeated Candie Kung, Stacy Lewis and Kim Kaufman over a demanding layout last year where only four players broke par. Kim has been perhaps a little below her best in recent starts but she is a fine player capable of successfully defending.
Jutanugarn will start as the hot favourite and in her only start in the event she finished 8th last year. Her current form is outstanding and she deserves the favourite tag.
Brooke Henderson and Amy Yang are other players from the world top ten who should be considered as potential winners. Henderson is playing the event for the first time while Yang who has been in solid form this season also has played twice for just average finishes.
Minjee Lee gets what appears to be a great chance to win her third LPGA Tour title. The West Australian finished 14th in her debut in the event last year and while a little below her best of late she is not far off where she needs to be to contend.
Su Oh and Sarah Jane Smith are the other Australian in the field.
