Veteran professional Stuart Appleby has withdrawn from the Emirates Australian Open because of a back injury.

Appleby could not complete the pro-am event at The Australian Golf Club today because of sharp pain in his lower back on the left side.

He was troubled by the injury in the Australian Masters at Metropolitan last week.

His place in the field has taken by alternate Blake McGrory, the 27 year old from Queensland, who will slot into the marquee group including John Senden and outstanding amateur Lucas Herbert.

McGrory recently won the lucrative Jeep Pro Am on the Gold Coast and the Rookie of the year title in Queensland and gets another chance to display his talent.
