Gold Coast golfer Anthony Quayle has finished in a share of second position at the Dogwood Invitational amateur event at the Druid Hills Golf Club near Atlanta.

21 year old Quayle, who last year won the Keperra Bowl Championship in Brisbane and the Pacific Northwest Amateur in the US, is currently Australia’s 6th highest world ranked amateur player although this effort could see him move higher.

The former Hills College student, which has produced the likes of Jason Day and others, is playing a series of events over the summer in the US after a disappointing run in recent events in Britain and this is an encouraging effort for him.

Quayle began the final round with a one shot lead over the eventual winner Charles Huntzinger and still had an opportunity to force a playoff at the last but just missed out.

Troy Moses was the next best of the Australians when he finished tied for 23rd.
