The world number 30 who finished sixth at last week's World Cup in China with Stuart Appleby is in South Africa this week contesting the Nedbank Challenge at Sun City and announced his intention to play the season ending $1.5 million event in a show of support after the late withdrawal of three time Major Champion Vijay Singh.
"Following the withdrawal of Vijay I spoke with my wife Sandy and we both felt it would be a good idea to add one more event to a busy end of year schedule," said Allenby, who claimed the Australian PGA Championship title in 2000, 2001 & 2005.
"The family love coming to the Hyatt Coolum and if I can help the Championship a little, we both felt it would be a good thing to do."
Following a steady year playing the USPGA TOUR with eight top 25 finishes including three top ten's, Allenby comes into the event as a three time past champion and would like nothing more than to add a fourth Australian PGA Championship title to his name.
"I have had a fairly consistent 2009 without winning,' said Allenby.Ã‚Â "To come back to a venue I know well might just be the confidence boost I need to take another step forward next year."
Upon announcing Allenby's inclusion into the Australian PGA Championship, the final event on the Australasian and OneAsia Tour calendar's for 2009, CEO of the PGA of Australia Max Garske said;

Currently the second highest world ranked Australian player behind defending champion Geoff Ogilvy, Allenby will line up next week alongside Americans John Daly and Steve Marino as well as the cream of Australian golf including Mathew Goggin, Adam Scott, Rod Pampling, John Senden, Stuart Appleby, Richard Green, Nathan Green and young guns Michael Sim, James Nitties, Jarrod Lyle and Marc Leishman. Two time China Tour Order of Merit winner Li Chao and last year's OOM winner Liao Guiming are the leading lights from China who will contest the event as well as a 29 strong contingent from Korea including five players from the Top 15 on the Order of Merit led by Lee Seong-ho.Ã‚Â
The Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola is the final event on the Australasian Tour and OneAsia Super Series calendars for 2009. It will be played at the Hyatt Regency Coolum on Queensland's Sunshine Coast from December 10-13. The race for the Norman Von Nida Medal, the most prestigious honour on the Australasian Tour presented to the highest money earner will conclude with the Australian PGA Championship as well as the crowning of the inaugural OneAsia Champion.
