Scott Gardiner runner-up in Raleigh

Scott Gardiner has taken advantage of a week off from the PGA Tour to finish runner-up at the Web.Com Tour's Rex Hospital Open in Raleigh in North Carolina.

Gardiner, who has made only five of 13 cuts on the PGA Tour this season was ineligible for this week's Crown Plaza event but it might just be that the return to the Web.Com Tour will give him a boost of confidence as he heads back to the PGA Tour for the event in Memphis in two week's time.

Scott finished four shots behind the winner Byron Smith and tied for his runner-up position with Harold Varner 111.

Nick O'Hern, Mathew Goggin and Steve Allan were the next best of the Australians in a share of 37th position.

The Web.Com Tour has a one week break before its next event in Cleveland.
