3 1/2 stars for El Cab. Management has certainly been working hard since I last played (DEC 15), quite a few of the rock drains have been taken out, the fairways are looking a lot better and there appears to have been lots of work done around the 13th / 14th.

Unfortunately it appears the greens have struggled with the rather cool winter and have dropped off a bit in terms of quality.

You can see it has potential and is getting there. Enjoyable course and will play again.

Great lay out, friendly staff one of the most underrated public course in wa in my opinion. Played in early September so course in good nick with all rain we have had. Par 5s a bit short but play OK of champ tees. Defiantly worth the drive if never played befor. Good fun and quick rounds

Highcuts' review seems harsh compared to what I saw in June 2013, admittedly my experience iwth different courses is still limited. El Caballo has an enjoyable layout with lots of undulations and some water, the greens are in good nick and roll very true. They're faster than the slow public greens I'm used to, but not as fast as Gosnells according to my mate who's a member and played with me today. The teeboxes were variable but again you can see they're putting in a lot of work to the course, concentrating on the greens first. The owner was apologetic in advance for the state of the fairways, the said give him a couple of years and he'll have them looking good. The first few were truly terrible, like playing golf in someone's paddocks, but they got better after the first few holes AND you get preferred lies on fairways so it's not a major problem. Give it time and they'll come good. There's a new retirement/lifestyle village being built nearby so if that takes off, hopefully they'll get more regular customer and regular income which will help speed up the pace of redevelopment. Overall, I wouldn't drive that far again in a hurry unless I had another discount voucher, but if it was closer I'd happily play there regularly. Maybe with some of those floating golf balls this time! Here's a tip - there are signs everywhere saying "Carts must remain on path" so we dutifully did that, which made the round very slow. On the 7th hole the course pro caught up to us and told us it is actually okay to drive on the fairways to your ball. Wish we'd known that to start with!

Set in the hills this course is a long way out, bout an hour from Perth, but nestled in the hills it is a great location. One would hope this course is like Araluen... U would be sadly mistaken when you get there. It's puss! The tee's and fairways are are lovely combination of assorted weeds, there is not a blade of grass to be found. You will however find pleanty of rocks and stones to ruin your golf clubs and golf ball. The greens are couch, normal plain old couch, enjoy putting on that shit! it is also a very short course and doesn't really through up any challenges. There are no facilities either. Do not waste your time driving out to this so called golf course, its more of a dog track.

Played this course on tuesday after wanting to play somewhere different then normal and glad we made the drive up. You have to look at a course for what you pay for it and we thought the $44 for the 18 and the cart was a great price, unlike other courses we have played. The greens are in good condition and most my putts went in for 2 or less. The course layout is challenging with bunkers, water and some slim fairways. The fairways are fairly dry and some of the tee boxs need some work but after speaking to the staff the are working hard and rectifying this issue. The only downside to the course are these man made streams, but my friend and I just played it as a man made structure and drop the ball back a foot or two. The proshop isn't much but if you drive all that way and need to stock up you have your own issue's. The staff were great and are working hard on the golf course. Defineately play there again as we had a challenging game for both of us.
