3 1/2 stars for El Cab. Management has certainly been working hard since I last played (DEC 15), quite a few of the rock drains have been taken out, the fairways are looking a lot better and there appears to have been lots of work done around the 13th / 14th.
Unfortunately it appears the greens have struggled with the rather cool winter and have dropped off a bit in terms of quality.
Played the front 9 . Very good course and very challenging.
reminds me of a linx course on a computer game. Some holes very
hard with deep bunkers. Course in good condition and greens are
top notch. Pro shop hardly has any stock and not surprising given
the small population around Toodyay.
Green fees only $15 for 9 holes.
It's unfortunate that this golf course is to far away from
the metro area ( 50 mins is a long way in perth) that this place
can't gain enough revenue to keep the course in good knick,
otherwise this is perhaps the most picturesque course in wa with
lovely views of the hill and york regions of wa if this was where
lake karrinyup was it would be a top 3 wa course, go out and play
it and u will fall in love with the beauty of the course.
After making my way through the ubiquitous early morning Perth
drizzle, I came upon El Caballo Golf Course. The round starts
with a challenging uphill dogleg left and sets the tone for this
However, don't take your good clubs. If you've got a set
of dodgy clubs collecting dust in your garage, take them. Time
after time you will find yourself hitting off rocks, and not
always when you've ventured off the well groomed fairways.
Imagine my disdain at removing a chunk from my nine iron when
hitting from dead center of the cut grass. And the boulders
aren't always visible, so it's advisable to tap around
your ball prior to hitting to get an understanding of how much
physiotherapy will be required on your wrist following tapping in
at the eighteenth.
All in all, it is a good relaxing course, free of the annoying
din of cars driving past tee boxes as is so often the case on
numerous courses around Perth. The green fees are rather low for
such a well maintained course. Unfortunately, this is offset by
having to buy new clubs once the round finished.
This course is a very nice course. the greens here are great.
they are quite slow for greens in a Perth summer. But that is a
relief after playing on some very quick ones. the scenery awesome
and the price is cheap.
The best hole on this golf course is the short downhill par 3
I highly recommend this golf course.
