What a great place to play golf - very enjoyable - the course provides challenges for golfers of all handicaps. Great warm up and practice areas, and friendly staff. Do yourself a favour and try it once.

Played the back 9 yesterday after finishing work early. I had played the front 9 mid Dec (see review below) and was happy when I walked in to be told the course was very quiet after a busy morning with the lady members comp. After a few pitches in the short game area (a decent practice area nestled next to the putting green) i headed off to the 10th tee. I really enjoyed my game and found the holes to be interesting, visually appealing and fun to play. The stand out hole was the 14th, a strong slight dog leg left par 4 of 365 metres. A decent drive to the ridge sets you up for a challenging downhill approach to long green guarded by bunkers front left and back right. The condition of the fairways and greens was consistent to what i experienced playing the front 9 in December with one notable difference: the greens have hardened up over the summer and i experienced larger first bounces when hitting approach shots. The pace of the greens is still on the slow side (to me at least) but the roll was consistent and true. There were a few bare patches in the rough of some holes (right and short of the 10th for example) and a few oddly placed trees (in the rough right side of 17) that were the only negatives i can mention. However, remembering that the course is still less than 12 months old i am sure the ground staff are still finding there way with the new land. For a track that costs $1200 per year for 7 day memberships you would be hard pressed to find a better value club in the area. Should the course remain playable during the winter months (unlike the more established club up the road) I can see this course going strong for years to come.

Played here for the first time today. Rolling fog came through in morning so tee times pushed back an hour. Greens were dewy for the first 5-6 holes. I appreciated the fantastic conditions of the fairways + greens being a new course. However, like noted below, there is a weed problem starting to come through, particularly on the front 9 holes. Par 3's were pretty similar at 140-150m mark, 7th was 170m off the blues which was nice. Par 5's weren't overly long, I did enjoy the 10th being a dog leg right + fairly narrow. Bunkering was fairly easy to get out of, as all of them around greens + fairways were all shallow. $49 green fees with RACV is reasonable for a course of that condition. Felt in general there wasn't anything spectacular that makes you go, "wow I want to play that hole again" (except for 330m 5th - you can cut that onto the green). Great new clubhouse + practice facilities with driving range, chipping range + putting greens.

Played the front 9 late on a sunny Friday afternoon last week as I wanted to see firsthand what the course was like as I may be moving to the area soon. The stand out feeling i had after walking off was this is a fun course to play. Not overly long and with a good balance of risk v reward type holes. Being a new course less than 12 months old it does have some 'maturing' to do in regards to consistency of the coverage of the green aprons and the greens themselves. The greens are lush and healthy albeit a tad on what i would consider the slow side. That being said they roll true and are well shaped offering a variety of pin placements. Fairway condition was good, a nice consistent covering with generous landing areas. It would be interesting to see how they cope during winter but from what i could see appropriate thought was put into the drainage and designated run off areas. Only gripe is there seems to be a little bit of weed growing in some patches but this is easily rectified with some spraying and I'm sure the club would be looking to do this once the course has matured sufficiently. One design feature I particularly liked was that the fairway bunkers (and green side bunkers where appropriate) were surrounded by fairway, meaning errant shots ended up in the sand. Speaking of the bunkers, they had a consistent covering of sand and were well placed to keep you honest off the tee. The green side bunkers were not deep but were large so you will need to have your sand game in tune if you are planning to play here. For me, the stand out hole of the front nine is the 5th. A reachable downhill par 4 with a slight dogleg right that entices you to have a go but with water and sand in play you better be straight if you do. In fact the stretch of holes 4 7 is very good with the strong par 3 7th a test and rightfully rated no. 6 on the card. The club has a grass tee range, short game area and large putting green which all looked first rate. Clubhouse and proshop coexist and are nicely housed in a classic clubhouse. Obviously this is not a championship layout but it does not claim to be. It is a solid course (from what I have seen after 9 holes only) that is enjoyable to play and will appeal to golfers of all abilities.

Played Gardiners Run over the Queens Birthday Weekend here in Melbourne. I would describe it as a links style course only with a little more undulating terrain and with water hazards. We found it to be both fairly challenging and aesthetically pleasing. It is well bunkered with plenty of doglegged undulating fairways and a few blind tee shots. Having said that the fairways are generous in width if you can land the ball in right areas! The greens varied in size & contours but were fairly slow, maybe this was to do with the early age of the course or the wet conditions we encountered? Carts were not permitted on this day. Haven't played golf since due to being beaten by my brother-in-law who has the nickname 'Kimbo Slice' and it's not for fighting.....! And I'm fighting the shanks! Will definitely go back over summer once the course has started to mature a little more. Great to have TWO new golf courses open in Melbourne in the last 6 months with Club Mandalay opening out north of the city! Play well!
