My cheap and cheerful local. Last his was yesterday the week after Melbourne's horrendous heatwave. The course has never been in better shape with recent improvements to some bunkers on the front 9 and all of the sand on the drains grown out. It's an easy course with plenty of chances to make birdies for the straight hitters. Hole 3 is always fun, with about a 150m carry over the lake which looks a lot more intimidating then it really is. Hole 8 and 9 are twin par 3's that give everyone a sniff of a hole in 1. It opens up on the back 9 with a couple of long par 4s that will need the long irons or hybrids hit well to get the distance. I like it better than its sister course at Ringwood. They don't mind a social game with a couple of beers, and the course is generally well looked after by the players.

Played Dorset for the first time on 18/5/13. Despite the weather being overcast and wet, the course held up pretty well (although rain wasn't too heavy). Really enjoyed the layout, wasn't too testing since a lot of the holes were straight and you could see most flags off the tee but appreciated the couch grass. For a Saturday the play was quick as well - took just on 4 hours to finish and there wasn't a hold up at any stage. For a muni course and $28 on the weekends it's more than worth it (compared to Yarra Bend which is $38 on the weekends and conditions not as good!). Will definitely be back.

Now that we're out of winter, the course has come up a real treat. Fairways and greens in great condition. Those who haven't played there in a while should give it another shot, you'll be surprised. New bunker on the 6th. But overall still a fairly simple course. Great for beginner or intermediate golfers, or those after a casual hit after work.

Played the course for the first time in two years today, and the highlight of the course is without doubt the fairways. You would struggle to find fairways at any private club that come close to being as good as Dorset's at the moment. The clubhouse has also had a makeover and is looking really good with a lot more room for both the public and the members of the golf club that plays at the course. Having said all that, the course itself is still an easy one to play, which is geared more towards the beginner and high handicap golfer, however there are about four or five holes that make you think about shot placement. Not many bunkers or hazards, however the quality of the condition of the course is very good and the Maroondah Council have done an excellent job on making it this way.

Played today and course has dried out significantly. Still some muddy areas but majority of fairways dry enough. Preferred lies still in play and greens have recently been cored and sanded.

An absolute bog heap in winter and no real warning from staff when you make the booking. I appreciate Melbourne has had a very wet winter however staff could at least mention if every fairway and green is surrounded by thick mud. Bring your gumboots.
