Fabulous hidden gem in South Gippsland. Hilly and challenging but light rough is forgiving. Played on 30 Dec 2017 and course was in superb condition. Very friendly locals and charming clubhouse bar. Well worth the expedition.

First of all, it's worth mentioning that Korumburra is the first golf course I have ever played, so my opinions are those of a COMPLETE novice. Now, for those who are still reading... I have always wanted to try golf, but had just never done so. My friend was having his buck's party and golf was on the agenda. From the moment I sliced my first tee shot on the downhill Par 3, I knew I had a new addiction. Now, for the course... My friends and I played the front 9 in Ambrose format. 5 of my drives were counted on the card. Not bad for a first timer, so I'm told. We played on 16th August, and while it was a cool, overcast day, there had been a bit of rain recently and the track was utterly swampish in places. Over 9 holes, I actually managed to lose 2 balls on the fairways, probably because they ended up at the bottom of shallow puddles. And going to retrieve OOB balls, we found ourselves ankle-deep in mud on more than one occasion. Oh the joys of being a hack. The course seemed a bit overgrown to me, with rough mostly indistinguishable from fairway. The tee boxes were all fine, dry and flat, and the greens were likewise flat and fast. Despite our hack status, we failed to hit any bunkers. I don't remember the specifics of many holes (I was in a state of mild euphoria most of the day) but there were very few flat holes, with most having a slight up/down or down/up (I don't know correct terminology, sorry) and some having SEVERE elevation changes. There were several unsighted greens, with some greens unsighted even to less than 50m. There was very little crowd, and despite the slowness of our trio, we did not bother nor were bothered by anyone else. In fact, one member playing a different fairway gave us some polite advice that it's ok to pick up the ball and clean it when the track is so muddy. The paying system was 'honesty box' (even on a Saturday), but the bar was tended. All staff had a welcoming, relaxed air about them that was appreciated. By the way, I believe the green fee was $15 for 9 holes. One major negative was the presence of a dead, rotting, stinking wombat near the green on the 2nd hole. It seemed it had been there for at least a few days. In all, as my first golfing experience, Korumburra might have been a little overly-challenging, and this was not helped by the marshy conditions. But I had as much fun as anyone ever has on a course, it's the start of what will be a long addiction, and the course will always have a special place in my heart Oh, one major negative

Korumburrama was our second leg of a golf weekend tha included Mirboo North. Korumburra is located about 4 km from the town in beautiful surroundings. The Gippsland hills are a perfect backdrop to a fine golf course. Unfortunately at the time of writing the course's greens had lost some grass cover although the greens were still puttable. Some of the holes are quite magestic, particularly the 5th 6th 14th and 15th where the natural undulations of the land have been utilized to add to the spectactular nature of these holes. If there is a criticism of the course it is the 1st and 2nd holes. The 1st is 120m and the second a monster 427m par 4.If the 2 holeswere combined it would make a great par 5. One of the many fine courses in this region.
