COURSE DETAILS
Sorrento Golf Course is a well groomed, hilly course with all year playability set on a sand and limestone base.
Its generous fairways and roughs are surrounded by densely wooded plantations, and bent grass greens are moderately to heavily bunkered.
Sorrento is a true test of golf, with the emphasis on accuracy rather than brute strength. Superb fast greens and a great mixture of short and long holes. Not as picturesque as it used to be, due to an over-zealous committee replacing the towering pine trees with nondescript native shrubs.
Sorrento for the longer hitter can be an easy course, the main issue being you must play the ball to the correct position on the fairways to maximise your oportunities. There are more birdie chances on the front nine than the back. If you play straight there are few problems but wide shots can be severely penalised. A most enjoyable place to play golf.
Sorrento is a traditional golf course with a long history and with some famous members form the past. While Sorrrento may not be everybodys cup of tea, the thing that struck me about this course was the magnificent greens that were fast and receptive. Sorrento is an undulating course which is not overly penal mainly putting an emphasis on precision over length. There are a good variety of dogleg holes and the typical Mackenzie style bunkering. Standout holes here are the 2nd, 8th, 9th, 12th, 13th a gem of a par 3, 16 and the great finishing hole where you second shot must be accurate.. Shot a 65 and left with nothing but praise for this little gem!
