COURSE DETAILS

The Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club is an exclusive member's only club, featuring a championship standard Greg Norman designed course.

Demanding considerable concentration and an appreciation of the effect of weather on golf strategy, the links style layout is testing to the novice and challenging to the champions.

With Santa Anna Couch fairways, hardy Fescues and native grasses for the rough and bent grass greens all being meticulously maintained and groomed, it's little wonder that Sanctuary Lakes is the home of the Men's Victorian PGA Championship.

Members also have the right to use the other first class facilities at Sanctuary Lakes, including:

  • The Clubhouse, featuring a private Members area, spike bar and restaurant, all featuring panoramic views of the course;
  • State-of-the-art practice facilities, including 300 metre golf driving range and huge practice putting green;
  • Superior golf tuition, available through Sanctuary Lakes' very own Golf Academy; and
  • Bag drop zone

Ignoring the work being done around the course (as its in the middle of a housing estate) or the greens under repair, the course itself was rather tame. Dry, patchy fairways on a course that wasn't very challenging with players who have no golf etiquette at a massively inflated price.......I've never seen so many people using motorised buggies on a flat course who were terribly slow. I'd give this place a miss. Feels old and needing alot of TLC to bring it back to what it once may have been. Nice club house and eating areas however.

Overrated - I’ve played twice - both times many bunkers were out of play & several greens carried bald patches. It’s also set within a housing estate, which imposes on the course. Not a problem for some, but far from a true ‘links’ course imho

Very dry fairways, great layout however, very expensive for $69 midweek for 18 holes was expecting more for that price

Greens - Large amount of sand causing inconsistent ball speed - Very rough surface in areas resulting from lack of grass Fairways - Consistent length - Large areas of dry grass Rough - Inconsistent length - Very thick in areas only a few meters off the fairway - Insufficient first cut Bunkers - Soft sand - Very playable Service - Slow service in pro shop - Forced to purchase white socks; saw other players with dark socks - No mention of aforementioned poor green conditions when booking Enjoyment - Par 3 holes were a highlight and - Par 4 holes were a big letdown with most being short (white markers) and not providing enough variety - Par 5 holes were a good test with decent length and bunkering Value - At full weekday price ($66) with the greens in their current condition the course is poor value - I would price a round at $35

Played this course on Mon 28th and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not usually a big fan of links style courses but this one had enough variety to keep you interested. Some of the more memorable holes were the ones with water. The 16th, 17th and 18th were a great way to finish. Reading through the other reviews I was a bit worried that the course was going to be too difficult for me and my 19 h/cap but there are a variety of tees to suit all abilities and the fairways were very generous. Will definitely be back.

Didn't get to enjoy the course as much due to my terrible personal game. Fantastic layout and was interesting to be playing amongst residential houses for all 18 holes. Felt the front 9 was more interesting than the back 9, particularly holes 10-13 were a bit bland. Hole 18 was probably my favourite hole of the course. Fairways were in impeccable condition, soft and lush. Greens were difficult to read due to fertiliser, but ran true. Can imagine they would be super quick without the fertiliser. Couple things I found frustrating was the lack of amenities (toilets, drinks etc) on course and also distance markers on course and sprinkler heads. The different coloured flags were helpful to indicate pin placement.
