COURSE DETAILS

Albert Park is a Par 72, fully public championship golf course located in the heart of Melbourne and is the home of the Victorian PGA Championships, played every October.

The course runs alongside the racetrack for the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix, and is a most picturesque location. There isn’t a better public access golf course in Melbourne.

Albert Park’s impressive landscape is dominated by mature exotic trees, and boasts some of the finest Elms in the state of Victoria. Recent extensions to the course have resulted in the planting of some 1600 additional trees of varying species.

Local residents began playing golf and developing the initial course in 1899, and 1999 marked the centenary of what is now the Albert Park Golf Course. The course is closed during the Australian Grand Prix but open at all other times, and Bookings are essential.

The course is a typical public golf course, which has all manner of people playing with different abilities. That is what it is there for and who it caters for.....no problem, BUT. Someone should take the time to explain the etiquette of slow play before they are allowed to play. I played the front 9 today in 2.5 hours, followed by back 9 in  1 hour. I almost gave up after 9 because it was so slow and only continued because the slow group in front only played 9 holes. This scenario can be a problem on any course, but on a public course it is more common. Apart from that, the course was in average condition, but had some nice views. The greens were consistent and true. A lot of hacker divets were not repaired.

This golf course is in poor condition.  The fairways are mostly dried out with a lot of bare ground, unfilled divots, dried out sparse grass.  There are stones, rocks & broken glass in the rough.   The bunkers have little sand.  However the greens are in reasonable condition.  The only toilet on the course (apart from the one at the proshop) is a portaloo that is only cleaned once a fortnight - it is disgusting.  There are better quality public courses around Melbourne.  It is a shame because it has great city views and is close to the city.

Situated only a few kilometres from Melbourne CBD, Albert Park Golf Course is one of the most conveniently located public courses to a capital city in the country. Although Albert Park handles plenty of golfing traffic, the condition of the course is top rate with lush fairways and consistent greens. Highlights include the narrow 368m par 4 4th with great city views and OOB running down the left from tee to green and the short par 4 14th with a strong left dogleg and OOB lurking down the left. The finishing three holes all play back towards the clubhouse with the busy Queens Rd traffic following the left side of the fairways. An unbeatable location and a well presented layout set against the Melbourne city skyline makes a round at Albert Park a great golfing option when visiting Australia's cultural capital.

Definitely one of Melbourne's goat tracks. Played here for first time in 8 years of living in Melbourne, now I know why I've avoided it. $37 green fees is rich considering how poor the fairways + rough is. The only hole I enjoyed was the 200m par 3 on back 9. It is a very plain + average course, the only plus today was we completed it in 3.5 hours. If you're wanting a cheap + public course, try Melbourne Airport or Yarra Bend.

A real mixed bag this place. Location is phenomenal, in the heart of the CBD, and the course maintenance - especially the fast greens - is amazing considering how busy it is. Which is the main drawback. Always chock full and often with big groups of younger players, often drinking. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but just worth knowing when you're planning a round. Course design also a drawback, only one or two holes that don't feel like narrow up and down par fours.

This course is a great one. The fairways are as green as you will ever get. HOLE 3 has got a palm tree in the middle of the fairway, but with stunning views of the city. I recommend this course it worth every dollar.
