COURSE DETAILS

A classic links style course winds its way through unspoilt sand dunes and provides spectacular views of the Southern Ocean.

Port Fairy Golf Links is more than three hours' drive west of Melbourne and a short drive east of the Western Victorian seaside town of Port Fairy.

In 2018, Golf Australia magazine rated Port Fairy #43 in its list of Australia's top 100 golf courses.

The 18-hole layout first opened in the early 1960s and has had multiple renovations since, most recently by Mike Clayton.

Played here in feb 2018 and loved the course.

It’s a links style golf course and the wind definitely comes into play here.

Long rough off the fairways can make finding tha ball difficult.

However customer service is the worst I’ve seen in Australia.

It took 2 weeks and countless emails to get my scorecard loaded.

One year on I wanted to go back to for another hit and give a retailed review.

3 emails and a message on messenger and no replies.

Well done Port Fairy the worse customer service.

Port Fairy GC is one of the purest golf experiences I've had. I've played all the great sandbelt courses in Melbourne yet Port Fairy remains one of my favourite places to play anywhere. Find me a better stretch of holes in regional mainland Australia than the 12th-16th at Port Fairy... I played at Port Fairy only 9 days ago and it's the best I've seen it. Almost all of its trees have been removed, giving it the sort of rugged dunes look that you get at Barnbougle.

Played Port Fairy April 2017. Cracking course - played in the mist, drizzle and wind so could imagine the links style in Scotland or Ireland. The course has to be the best value for money course in Victoria and a must play when in the area.

I played here for the first time a couple of weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed the course. This is a lovely country course and although the conditioning might not be quite up to the quality of tier one courses it's still really, really good. Some great holes with great ocean views make it a joy to play. Would definitely play it again if in the area. Great value for money at $45 green fees.

How is this course not in the top 20 in the country? My new favourite course. Wonderful use of the coastal dunes. I'm glad I wasn't in a comp because I wouldn't have been able to stand on the 12th tee for 15 minutes watching the surfers on their longboards with the Port Fairy lighthouse in the background. But the golf course stands on it's own anyway with plenty of risk and reward and a wonderful use of the changes in elevation. The par 5 fifth meanders up into the side of the dunes, the 7th and 10th cling to the side of the dunes with a tee shot too far right disappearing off the planet and you want to drive the 13th par 4 but should you? My favourite hole was the long par 4 14th with the huge sand dune to the right of the fairway and my second shot soaring into the southern ocean for what seemed an eternity before falling onto the green below.
