This is a reasonably tight golf course. I found myself leaving the driver in the bag on a several holes. Plenty of blind drives here too which made things tough given I hadn't played there before. There are a whole heap of large gums on the course which look great but can get in the way when approaching greens, even when you are on the short grass. Couch fairways were in great nick. The greens were a little slow. They had been cored about three 3 weeks previous so this is understandable. The holes also seem smaller than normal. Great bar and a nice pro who was up for a chat and was happy to give some local tips. Colac is a nice regional golf club and worth playing if you are in town.

Played on Saturday, pleasantly surprised by a course I had not heard anything about. Certainly some interesting holes on the course, with the easier front 9 as your starting point. Then certainly tested on the back nine. Overall the locals should be proud of the course & the hard work that they have obviously put in too such a nice track. Only problem for our group was that the greens had recently been cored & the bar wasn't opened until after 4pm.

Measures 5711m Par 71 with four par 3s ranging from 128-196m, eleven par 4s ranging from 280-368m and three par 5s ranging from 458-482m. The tree-lined course is well-maintained with good couch fairways, flat teebeds, well-bunkered greens and some of the quickest and smoothest grass greens in the region. All holes except the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 13th have at least one bunker protecting the green. Having said that, what was disappointing is the sand in the bunkers was rock hard with lots of loose pebbles and stones. The first 6 holes are played on the north-western side of a hill which overlooks the town and Lake Colac - quite scenic, but these are the boring holes. Holes worthy of mention include: the 196m 9th with its elevated tee with a dam on the right and bunkers guarding the leftside, the 365m slight dogleg left 11th with OOB racecourse along the left and a bunker right of the green, the 482m slightly downhill 14th (rated the most difficult) with OOB along the left with a green protected by a bunker short left and a dam on the right and the finishing 368m slight dogleg right 18th has its left-sloping green protected by 3 bunkers are all quite challenging for any golfer. The back nine is definately the most challenging and my favourite part of the course. Played here 22/11/2010 with $30 green fees. Located 4km south of the traffic signals at the main intersection (A1/C155) along Colac-Lavers Hill Road (C155) the 11000 people which reside in Colac should be proud of their course as it was surprisingly challenging. About 45 minutes from Geelong and about 75 minutes from Warrnambool I recommend a round here.

Colac is a 18 hole golf course that is a tough assignment for all golfers. Outer bounds areas are on 10 of the holes. A tip is to putt so that the ball goes towards the lake. The front 9 has recently been done with couch and in a few years should be excellent to hit off. The fairways are reasonable. The holes are on gentle sloping land. This course is on a hill and can get pretty windy, particularly the west holes.

Feature holes are the nice uphill par 3 7th, the par 3 9th that is 195m and has a severe sloping green and the par 5 14th which is tough with the border of the course on the left and a smallish green protected by a bunker on the left. There are greenside bunkers on most holes. The toughest hole is the last which is 378m and has a almost unfair sloping green that slopes from right to left.

I have played the Colac Course as a vistor over the last 3 years. They(the members) have done a heap of work on their course with all fairways being upgraded with legend couch. The holes are all quite different and require usage of all clubs in your bag. This course is most certainly a sleeper and worthy of playing. This course was beautifully presented in their Easter tournament and offers a quality challenge to all standards of golfer. The course will get even better as the years progress.
