Played Thurs 30/7. Well maintained and interesting 18 holes thanks to a dedicated membership. Water restrictions mean preferred lie on fairways but there is enough consistent grass to only need it on occasion. The bunkers play well, though they are not overly significant. Greens are medium speed with enough variation in size and contours to add interest. Most holes are fairly straight forward with just enough length and shape to catch the unwary. Comps on Thursday and Saturday, Ladies on Wednesday and nine hole social games Tuesday and Wednesday. Only $20 unlimited holes per day. Well worth a hit. The Relic.

Warracknabeal now measures 5859m Par 72 with three par 3s ranging from 123-202m, twelve par 4s ranging 280-407m and three par 5s ranging from 412-476m. Course has couch grass fairways and teebeds with mostly short pine tree-lined fairways on a sand-based layout. The fairways can be a little places but it is quite playable year-round. There are small-to-medium sized 20m long Santa Ana couch grass greens which have good consistent roll. There is some rye grass in the green surrounds. In terms of hazards, there are 6 unbunkered holes (at 2, 5, 8, 9, 11 & 16) with a total of 19 bunkers on the course. There are no water hazards on the course. Holes worthy of mention include: the 368m 2nd (index 2) which doglegs 45 degrees right from 180m off the tee to a bunkerless green; the 202m slightly downhill Par 3 5th (index 4) to a 15m long x 20m wide bunkerless green; the 476m slight bend left 6th (index 8) to a green with 2 bunkers; the 153m 7th (index 16) which plays gently downhill to a green with 2 leftside bunkers; the 354m 14th (index 5) which doglegs 45 degrees right from 180m off the tee; and the 372m straight 18th (index 3) which plays gently uphill with a fairway bunker left 220m off the tee to a bunkerless green. The stretch of par 4s (at 9, 10, 11 & 12) are quite short and easy and play straight with the flags visible from the tee mound. The par 3s (at 5, 7 & 13) are varied in length, and apart from the unbunkered 5thgreen, the 7th & 13th greens are well-bunkered on the leftside. The par 5s (at 6, 8 & 15) are quite short and apart from the 8th all have at least one greenside bunker. Overall, the course conditioning and is good here with varied par 4s which have a good mix of short and medium-length par 4s. An easy walking course with its challenges for all golfers with about 6 flags not visible from the tee mound. The club uses bore water, mains water and wastewater town effluent to irrigate the course. Clubhouse is attended on Thursdays and Saturdays. Warracknabeal is a northern Wimmera and southern Mallee town of around 2300 people approximately 120m above sea level about 60km north of Horsham and 80km east of Nhill. Course access is 3km north of the town along the Henty Highway (B200) heading north for 2km then turning into Golf Links Road for another 1km off the Henty Highway turnoff. Played here 30th September 2012 with only $15 green fees. Decent club facilities with a 175m long grass driving range and a synthetic grass bowling green. I'd recommend a round here.
