Neangar Park Golf Club
18 Holes
PAR 71

The Neangar Park Golf Club is a first class course and an absolute pleasure to play. Set among native eucalyptus, the well manicured and undulating greens and fairways place a premium on accuracy. The course is located at Eaglehawk, which is a suburb located in the north of greater Bendigo.

Neangar Park measures 5685m Par 71 with five par 3s ranging from 147-191m, nine par 4s ranging from 253-388m and four par 5s ranging from 430-475m. Course has been established on the current site since the early 1930s and had sand scrapes until 1991. The course now has medium-sized penncross/penneagle bent grass greens which are quite undulating. There are Santa Ana couch grass fairways and teebeds with a mixture of kikuyu and bent/winter rye grass rough and green surrounds with some fescue mixed in as well. In terms of hazards there are only 2 bunkerless holes at 3 & 15 and a total of 32 bunkers on the course. There are 3 storage ponds/dams on the course and another dam off-site with the major storage ponds/dams being the 45ML capacity storage alongside the 9th tee and the 30ML storage capacity beside the 6th fairway. Highlights include: the 191m slightly uphill 3rd (index 9) with a 20m long 2-tier bunkerless green with a pond on the left of the green; the 475m slight bend right 4th (index 8) which has its fairway sloping to the right from the tee to a green 2 bunkers short and another bunker 40m short left rough; the 388m 5th (index 1) which doglegs right off the tee then is played gently uphill to the green with a bunker short left; the 169m 10th (index 10) with a teeshot across the pond on the right to a green with a bunker short right; and the 355m slight bend right 18th (index 5) to a 25m long green guarded by 3 bunkers. The layout is quite interesting with the 1st, 6th & 10th tees adjacent to the clubhouse/proshop. The back nine is quite short and relatively unchallenging with no long par 4s greater than 355m in length. The front nine has probably more of the pick of the holes on the course. Played here 25/09/2012 with $24 green fees 7 days a week. Course access is from Averys Road. Neangar Park is the third longest of the 6 layouts in Greater Bendigo (others being Axedale, Belvoir Park, Bendigo, Eaglehawk & Heathcote). Bendigo is one of SIX 18-hole grass green courses within the Greater Bendigo area which has around 100000 people.

I have played this course when visiting my brother in law in bendigo, a great course, the only issue was the day we played they had changed a few holes due to maintenance on the course and greens were just fairways cut shourt with a hole in the middle. Apart from that i will go back and play again when the course upgrades are completed.

Neangar park had a face lift over a few of its holes earlier in the year and is better off for it. Coming into summer now and still in the middle of a severe drought it's currently the best course in Bendigo, still not as good as the courses on the Murray but that could be fixed with a bit of rain. Has a good mixture of straight holes, dog legs, tight and wide holes to keep the game challenging and interesting, worth playing if you're in Bendigo with the sticks in the boot.
