Recently played this course for the first time. The club house was closed , but you expect that at a country club. So paid my money into the box and off we went. They are trying to couch the fairways and seem to be making progress, but don't expect a sand belt fairway. The greens we ok for a country track. The most bizarre thing was the lack of any may either at the club house or on the course. The holes were not outlined on the tee's either. So we had no idea where we were hitting which left a bad taste in the mouth. Many of the holes dog left left including a couple of hard 90 degree turns, so not knowing where to hit or be able to see the flag was really frustrating.

Been back to Kyneton recently, more fairways couched and three more coming up for opening. The course is in great shape for this time of year, holding greens and good couched fairways. More bunkers on second nine is a MUST if the course is to be played often, gets a bit monotonous after a few rounds. be careful of abundance of exposed tree roots on some holes where pines line the fairways. Plenty of kangaroos and a couple of echidnas in residence.

Lovely little track for the golfer who wants something a little different! Greens are small and tricky which makes up for the lack of green side bunkering, otherwise an honest golfers course. Tree lined most holes with course management a must, but you can't expect to have a decent score around here without keeping the ball under control and not spraying them off the tee. Overall a lovely course and I will defs be back again, tricky track that requires precision but can absolutely score low here.

Q tip underrates Kyneton;he has a fondness for long holes and plenteous bunkering, the latter not often oresent in Vic.country courses.A pity, because his reviews are generally to be relied on as good indicators of golfcourse quality. Kyneton is a Morcom design which means you expect several good short par 4 doglegs which for most golfers add greatly to the enjoyment, and Kyneton is no exception to this rule.Overall the course is not long, but the scratch rating 71 against par 70 suggests it is not to be taken too lightly-even with only a few bunkers! In fact there are a succession of attractive holes more than sufficiently testing for most i.e.those whose handicap is in two digits.I would nominate; 1st.296m.uphill all the way to a shallow, acutely sloping green;a tough ask for your 1st hole and stroke index 17 is no help! 2nd.408m.fairway falls left and you need to turn right to the green. 3rd.326m.classic Morcom short dogleg left;was he a lefty? 5th.358m.90 degree dogleg left, downslope to corner @ 210m. 7th.317m.another dogleg left with pond left side @ 230m. And so it continues, but we cannot omit mention of 2 more cracking holes; 10th;431m.par 4;90 degree dogleg left, blind drive over ridge. 18th;278m.dogleg left round trees, green guarded by high mound topped with grasses.Lovely finishing hole but stroke 18 so drive right of centre to give yourself a chance of a concluding par or better.

Went back to Kyneton last week, course is an absolute picture, greens are as good as anything on the sandbelt, except perhaps for 5th, and fairways picking up after drought. The Club is couching the fairways and the 2nd is finished and is quite spectacular. To all you golfers out there, go visit Kyneton, you will not be disappointed.

I have played Kyneton many times and never tire of the layout, plenty of variety, long par 4's, short par 4,s and plenty of mid range par 3.s, also two water holes. There is a practice fairway for tuning up and a very nice clubhouse. The greens are always in excellent condition and whilst the fairways dry out in summer, in spring they are perfect. More bunkering would be great but bunkering comes with a maintenance cost which no doubt the club cannot afford at present, operating on a very tight budget.
